Analysis: Eovaldi, who missed all of 2017 recovering from Tommy John surgery and then had another procedure in spring training to remove loose bodies from his right elbow, was initially slated to face the A's on Tuesday. The Rays made the switch in order to have lefty Blake Snell follow Monday's starter Chris Archer. Eovaldi hasn't pitched in a major league game since Aug. 10, 2016 while then with the Yankees.
