Four starts ago in Oakland, he allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings of a 4-1 loss.

Volquez struck out 10, ending the game with a 3.79 ERA and 1.38 WHIP on the season.
Analysis: Volquez's no-hitter was the sixth in Marlins history and first since Henderson Alvarez blanked the Tigers in the 2013 season finale, and it followed up an excellent performance on Monday in which he yielded a run on three hits over six innings to beat the Phillies. After going winless in each of his first nine starts in a Miami uniform, the veteran right-hander has clearly risen back into top form.

Analysis: Volquez snapped his career-high, eight-game losing streak. It was his first win since Aug. 25 when he beat Miami as a member of the Royals. Volquez had gone 16 consecutive starts without a win, and his seven straight losses to start this season tied a Marlins record. It certainly wasn't all his fault, having entered the game with the second-worst run support in the majors.

The 33-year-old right-hander has dropped eight straight decisions overall dating to 2016, the longest drought of his career. ''When I signed on here I was hoping to be better than what I am right now,'' Volquez said. He next takes the ball Tuesday against the Phillies. At Philadelphia on April 27, Volquez allowed three runs and six hits in 5.2 innings.

Analysis: It was Volquez's first loss against Seattle, as he previously was 5-0 in eight appearances. He walked four and failed to get through five innings for the second straight start. "Edinson just didn't seem to be himself today," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "His stuff was up, and his command was off." Maybe he'll have better luck Wednesday in Philadelphia, having gone 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA in six career starts against the Phillies.

Analysis: After throwing a bullpen session Thursday, Volquez's start was pushed up a day so he could replace Adam Conley, who pitched the 16th in the extra-inning loss Thursday. "In the first inning I was really strong, but after that I was a little tired,'' Volquez said. ''Everybody's tired.''

Analysis: Volquez didn't allow a run against Washington in his 2017 debut, so this was a step back.
|Apr. 3 3:35 PM PT4:35 PM MT5:35 PM CT6:35 PM ET18:35 ET22:35 GMT6:35 3:35 PM MST5:35 PM EST6:05 PM VEN2:35 UAE (+1)5:35 PM CT-Volquez threw five scoreless innings in his Marlins' debut Monday at Washington, though he didn't get a decision in the team's eventual 4-2 loss. The right-hander struck out six while yielding just four hits and a walk.
Analysis: Though he's coming off a brutal 2016 campaign with Kansas City, the 33-year-old could be a rebound candidate in Miami. During Volquez's last season pitching for a National League team, he compiled a very solid 13-7 record and a 3.04 ERA in 32 appearances (31 starts) with the Pirates in 2014.
