Analysis: He hadn't pitched in the majors since being diagnosed with testicular cancer in November. Bettis had surgery for the condition, but tests in March showed the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. He later underwent chemotherapy. He was able to harness his emotions and put together a strong outing.

Analysis: The Rockies plan to have Bettis back in the rotation sometime next week, but they want to give him one more start in the minors. A 14-game winner in 2016, the right-hander went 0-2 with a 5.93 ERA through three outings with the Isotopes while on a rehab assignment.
